Lesson 17: Environmental Sustainability

This video provides an overview into the breadth of scope in the environmental category of sustainability. The intention is simply to show how impossibly broad and serious the topic is. If you’re starting to feel climate anxiety from this content, put it all down for a moment and go for a walk. It’s a lot to take in, but do know that there is hope, we just need to know where we’re starting from.

• Carbon Almanac is a digestible read for those wanting to get quickly updated on the realm of carbon emissions and global warming. Contributed by over 300 volunteer scientists and experts in the sector, this book serves as a quick crash course into the area.

• Planet A by DW, a national German broadcaster has well researched and balanced content on the sustainability. This particular video was covered in our video and is a very well invested 9 minutes of your time in understanding the context of decarbonising the energy sector.

• Here’s a quick 4 minute video from the National Geographic on Air Pollution

• A sad and disturbing video on noise pollution in the sea.

• Why compostables are also not the answer and in our opinion is a slightly lesser of two evils in comparison to plastics. Here’s the New Zealand Ministry of Environment’s stance on compostables.

• And PFAS/ PFOS, the forever chemical that’s … almost everywhere and the reason why some compostables are hydrophobic. This video is actually quite entertaining.
